St. Monica: Patron of Wives and Mothers

Today is the feast day of St. Monica. She was the mother of the great St. Augustine, whose feast we celebrate tomorrow. Monica prayed for the conversion of her son for many years as he was as far from the faith as a person could get at the time!
She was married to a violent man who also happened to be a pagan. Enduring this difficult marriage as well as her constant prayer for her son has made her patron of wives and mothers.

Prayer to Saint Monica

Exemplary Mother of the great Augustine, you perseveringly pursued your wayward son not with wild threats but with prayerful cries to heaven. Intercede for all mothers in our day so that they may learn to draw their children to God. Teach them how to remain close to their children, even the prodigal sons and daughters who have sadly gone astray.
Amen.

Karinann ~ I think you did right to give them both their day. They deserve it! I just ask for their prayers (together), and that's how I think of them. Love the St. Monica prayer. Reading your post makes me realize once again the example of St. Monica. How alone she must of felt at times. She had a husband who was mean and a lost son. But she turned to God, instead of relying on herself! Looking forward to your St. Augustine post. :) Thank you for always visiting!
